Question

How do I apply for residency status?

Answer

To qualify as a South Dakota resident for tuition, you must have lived in South Dakota for 1 year prior to enrolling at NSU.

If you are a non-resident, you may apply for residency if you:

  1. Meet the three following criteria:
    1. Location of permanent residence within the borders of South Dakota
    2. Purpose for reasons other than pursuit of higher education
    3. Time span of 12 or more consecutive months which immediately precedes the first scheduled day of classes for the first term of post-secondary study
  2. Or, qualify for any of the following exceptions:
    1. Family Status (parent/guardian or spouse is a South Dakota resident)
    2. Military
    3. Graduated from a South Dakota high school
