How do I apply for residency status?
Answer
To qualify as a South Dakota resident for tuition, you must have lived in South Dakota for 1 year prior to enrolling at NSU.
If you are a non-resident, you may apply for residency if you:
- Meet the three following criteria:
- Location of permanent residence within the borders of South Dakota
- Purpose for reasons other than pursuit of higher education
- Time span of 12 or more consecutive months which immediately precedes the first scheduled day of classes for the first term of post-secondary study
- Or, qualify for any of the following exceptions:
- Family Status (parent/guardian or spouse is a South Dakota resident)
- Military
- Graduated from a South Dakota high school
