As a Northern student, your Wolves account will be used to sign in to everything at Northern, including D2L, Gmail, Self-Service Banner, the Wi-Fi, and more.
Your password must be updated every 6 months. You will receive email notice when your password is about to expire.
Step 1: Set a Password
1. From the northern.edu homepage, select myNSU in the top-right corner.
2. Under "Northern/Wolves Account", select Reset Password.
3. Under "First-Time Access", select Start Here.
4. Enter your Wolves account (also known as Wolves email), solve the CAPTCHA, then select Next.
5. Choose a method of verification: text, call, or email. You will have to enter your phone number or email to confirm, then select Text, Call, or Email.
6. Enter the verification code, then select Next.
7. Enter a new password, following the password requirements:
- Must be at least 8 characters in length.
- Must contain at least three of the following:
- Lower case letter
- Upper case letter
- Number
- Special character
- May not contain any part of your username (first or last name).
Select Finish.
8. You may now close this browser tab and return to the "New Account and Password Reset" page.
Step 2: Register for Duo
1. Under "Register or Change your Authentication Method or Info", select Register or Change Info.
2. Sign in with your Wolves account and password.
3. Click Next through the Duo introductory messages, then select Duo Mobile (Recommended).
4. Enter your phone number, then select Continue.
5. Double check your phone number, then select Yes, it's correct.
6. On your smartphone, install Duo Mobile from the app store by either:
- Searching for "Duo Mobile"
- Using the direct link:
7. Open the Duo Mobile app.
8. In the top-right of the Duo Mobile app, select +Add > Use QR Code, then scan the QR code. You will be prompted to Save.
9. On your computer, select Continue, then Log in with Duo.
10. You will receive a prompt/push notification on your smartphone. Select Approve.
11. If you're using your own computer, you may select Yes, this is my device, then Yes to stay signed in.
Step 3: Review Account Recovery Options
1. Choose a method of verification: text or call.
2. Enter the verification code, then select Verify.
3. Here, you have the option to:
- Review or Change your recovery phone
- Change your password
- Add sign-in method(s), such as email, alternative phone, or security questions
